If you drove out of the Flintrock guardhouse on the last Monday in February and again on the first Monday in July, the ten minutes of road between your front door and Highway 620 quietly rearranged itself. A tavern that had been there for fifteen years is gone. A resort restaurant reopened under a new menu. A park broke ground on Tomichi Trail. Trenching crews with Google Fiber vests are working streets that had no fiber in January. And the Texas Film Commission added Lakeway to its Film Friendly roster in March, which is the kind of designation that shows up later in the year as film crews and location scouts, not press releases.
None of this shows up on a listing sheet. But it is what actually shifts the week for a household inside the gates: where you have dinner on a Thursday, what you walk to on a Saturday morning, whether you keep the Wednesday farmers market on the calendar, and whether the road to the Galleria has a flagger on it. The point of this post is to lay those changes out in one place so the summer routine doesn't get set by muscle memory from 2025.
The dinner rotation is not what it was in January
The most concrete change is on the restaurant side. The League Kitchen & Tavern closed after 15 years in the area on Feb. 25, serving American-style cuisine including burgers, sandwiches, appetizers, confections and cocktails. For anyone who had it in the rotation as the default casual dinner outside the gate, that spot is now open on the map.
Two things are filling in the gap. Canyon Grille at Rough Hollow reopened on April 14 with a farm-to-table seasonal menu, which is a shorter drive from Flintrock than most Bee Cave options and reads more like a destination dinner than a weeknight one. And restaurant group T4C announced a new Lakeway location of its Italian-American concept Cousin Louie's, though an exact address and opening date were not available as of press time. If you use Lakeway Resort & Spa's dining as an occasional anchor, note that Sixty Three has been running a wine-dinner series with real pricing behind it. A June 26 4-course dinner featured wines from DAOU Vineyards and the Patrimony Collection, including Patrimony Cabernet Sauvignon vintages from 2020, 2021 and 2022, Patrimony Caves des Lions, and DAOU Soul of a Lion, thoughtfully paired with 4 chef-curated courses. The seat price was $200. Whether or not that particular dinner is on your list, the programming pattern is the news: this is a series, and the next one will land on the OpenTable calendar with a few weeks of notice.
A park you can walk to is being built at 708 Tomichi Trail
The item most likely to change a Saturday morning is not a restaurant. It is a park.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the Butler Rough Hollow Park project was held Monday, July 6 at 9:30 a.m. at 708 Tomichi Trail, with light refreshments and free Texas native tree saplings offered to attendees. The saplings detail is the tell. Cities that hand out native saplings at a groundbreaking are cities that want the neighbors to have a stake in what shows up on the site three years later. If you missed the ceremony, the address is still useful: 708 Tomichi Trail is the pin to check for construction fencing and site plans as the project progresses.
Free Texas native tree saplings, at a groundbreaking, is the kind of detail that tells you what the finished park is going to feel like.
Layer this on top of what already exists. Lakeway maintains parks, trails, greenbelts, and recreational facilities throughout the community, and Butler Rough Hollow is an addition to that inventory rather than a replacement for anything. For Flintrock Falls in particular, another public green space on the Rough Hollow side of 620 shortens the distance between the gate and a walkable park destination.
The community calendar between now and Labor Day
If you have out-of-town family visiting between now and the end of August, or grandchildren coming through, this is the short list worth putting on the fridge:
- Wednesdays, 4 to 8 p.m., Lohmans Crossing. Lakeway Nights Farmers Market brings local produce, artisan goods, food vendors, live music, and community energy to Lohmans Crossing, operating Wednesdays from 4 to 8 p.m.
- July 4, 8:30 a.m., Lakeway Drive. The Lakeway July 4th Parade is in its 50th year, a family-friendly procession down Lakeway Drive from Live Oak Golf Course to the Activity Center at 8:30 a.m., followed by a Hot Dog Reception at the Activity Center, with evening fireworks over Lake Travis at Volente Beach Resort, waterpark fun, live music starting at 7 p.m., and a lakeside fireworks show around 8:30 to 9 p.m. Fiftieth is the number that matters. A parade that has been running for half a century is a parade you can plan around without checking whether it happened last year.
- Saturday, Aug. 22, 1 to 5 p.m., Lakeway Activity Center. Registration is open for artists to participate in the next Cool Arts Show & Sale, taking place Saturday, Aug. 22 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Lakeway Activity Center. Whether you are exhibiting, buying, or just walking the floor, it is the closest thing Lakeway has to a curated arts afternoon.
- All summer, Lakeway Swim Center. Registration is open for the July Summer Swim Academy, a noncompetitive program for ages 5 and up to help work on fitness and swimming techniques and become a stronger overall swimmer. Useful if grandkids are staying more than a weekend.

Two quieter changes that will outlast the summer
Beyond the restaurants and events, two structural items landed in the first half of 2026 that will still be shaping the neighborhood in 2027.
Google Fiber trenching. Google Fiber began building a new network in Lakeway in late January 2026, with temporary lane closures with flaggers and signage expected for safety, and a webpage available for project updates from Google. If a route you normally take to Bee Cave has a flagger on it, that is what you are seeing. The upside is that when the build is finished, Lakeway becomes one of the few high-end residential markets in the Austin metro with a genuine second wireline provider inside its footprint. For a household that works from home, that is a real change in the day.
Film Friendly Certified Community. On March 12, 2026, the Texas Film Commission designated Lakeway as a Film Friendly Certified Community. What that means in practice is not press coverage; it means the city has a designated liaison, permitting process, and location library that film and commercial productions use when scouting the Hill Country. Expect to occasionally see a small production truck on a street off 620. It is a designation that quietly raises the ceiling on what shows up in the area.
What actually shifts in a normal week
Add it together and the specific shape of a Flintrock Falls or Hills week has moved by a few degrees. Wednesday afternoon has a live outdoor market at Lohmans Crossing instead of a drive to central Austin. The default casual-dinner slot that used to belong to The League is up for grabs, with Canyon Grille and, once it opens, Cousin Louie's, the most likely inheritors. The Rough Hollow side of 620 is gaining a park at 708 Tomichi Trail. A parade that has been running for fifty years is still the anchor on the Fourth. And two structural items, fiber in the streets and a state film designation, are working under the surface.
