Barton Creek Country Club: Golf, Membership & Luxury Real Estate in Austin

Nicole Cooper  |  October 5, 2026

If you're looking for one of the premier golf lifestyles in Austin, Barton Creek Country Club is going to be near the top of the list.

But Barton Creek is a little different from many of Austin's other golf communities. This isn't simply a neighborhood built around one golf course. It's a much larger golf and lifestyle experience, with multiple courses, resort amenities, luxury homes and several distinct residential areas.

For Episode 4 of On the Move with Nicole Cooper | Austin's Golf Agent, we're taking you inside Barton Creek Country Club and breaking down what you should actually know before deciding whether this is the right Austin golf community for you.

Four Golf Courses — and Four Different Experiences

One of the biggest advantages of Barton Creek membership is access to four golf courses:

  • Fazio Foothills
  • Fazio Canyons
  • Crenshaw Cliffside
  • Barton Creek Lakeside

The first three are located near the Omni Barton Creek Resort in West Austin, while Barton Creek Lakeside gives members another completely different golf experience near Lake Travis.

For serious golfers, having multiple courses available within one membership is a major part of Barton Creek's appeal. You're not playing the same 18 holes every weekend.

And each course has its own personality.

Barton Creek Is More Than Golf

Golf may be the headline, but Barton Creek has developed into a full luxury lifestyle destination.

The Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa brings a resort atmosphere to the community, with dining, fitness, tennis, swimming, spa amenities and social opportunities.

That makes Barton Creek especially interesting for couples where one person is an avid golfer but the other wants much more than golf.

It's something I talk about frequently with relocating buyers: don't choose the house first. Choose the lifestyle first.

The perfect house in the wrong community is still the wrong house.

What Does It Cost to Join Barton Creek Country Club?

This is one of the first questions buyers ask me.

Barton Creek is one of Austin's more exclusive private golf memberships, and membership availability and initiation fees can change.  Currently $175,000

Another important consideration is that buyers should understand the distinction between the Barton Creek membership options, including Barton Creek Lakeside, and any current waitlist or upgrade structure.

If Barton Creek is part of your home search, I recommend looking at the membership and the real estate together rather than treating them as two separate decisions.

A beautiful Barton Creek home doesn't necessarily solve your golf membership needs.

That's a conversation you want to have before buying—not after closing.

What Is Barton Creek Real Estate Like?

There isn't one single "Barton Creek house."

That's one of the things I like about the area.

Depending on the section, you'll find everything from lock-and-leave luxury properties to larger custom estates, golf course homes and properties with beautiful Hill Country views.

Buyers are often drawn here because they can combine proximity to downtown Austin with a much more private, resort-oriented environment.

But there are tradeoffs.

Lot characteristics, views, proximity to the golf courses, traffic patterns, membership considerations and the individual feel of each section can vary considerably.

This is where understanding the community at a very local level matters.

Who Is Barton Creek Best For?

Barton Creek tends to make the most sense for buyers who want:

  • High-level private golf
  • Multiple golf courses instead of just one
  • Luxury amenities beyond golf
  • Access to West Austin
  • Hill Country scenery and privacy
  • A strong social and club lifestyle
  • Luxury real estate with a variety of home styles

It can also be a compelling option for people relocating to Austin who want golf to be a significant part of their lifestyle without moving farther out into some of the newer golf developments.

Barton Creek vs. Other Austin Golf Communities

This is where things get interesting.

Barton Creek isn't automatically the "best" golf community in Austin simply because it's one of the best known.

Someone who loves Barton Creek might not love Spanish Oaks.

Someone who wants the social atmosphere and multiple courses available through Barton Creek might have completely different priorities from a buyer considering The Hills of Lakeway, UT Golf Club, Austin Country Club, Westlake Country Club or one of the newer luxury golf developments around Austin.

That's why I don't start my golf clients with houses.

I start with the clubs and communities.

We figure out where you're actually going to enjoy living, playing golf and spending your time. Then we find the right property.

Is Barton Creek Country Club Right for You?

If you're considering moving to Austin and golf is an important part of your life, Barton Creek absolutely deserves to be on your list.

But before buying, understand the membership, the different courses, the residential sections and how the overall lifestyle compares with Austin's other private golf communities.

That's exactly what we explore in Episode 4 of On the Move with Nicole Cooper | Austin's Golf Agent.

And if you're trying to decide between Barton Creek and another Austin golf community, reach out. I'll give you the whole truth—the good, the bad and the things you probably won't find in the listing description.

Because the goal isn't simply to buy a beautiful home.

It's to find the Austin golf community where you're actually going to love living.
